Consultation
Through an initial enquiry process I’ll learn more about you. I absolutely love to understand more about who you are, and what it means for you to be taking this journey. My intention is that you will return from your journey completely renewed and feeling full. So, it’s important that I understand what is important to you, what is essential for you to experience while you’re traveling, your absolute “no’s” and any other important bits of info.
Planning
I’m guided to an itinerary based on your preferences and information, as well as my own expertise and process. I’ll share ideas with you. Together we’ll discover the perfect mix of experiences, value and luxury within your budget considerations. Every step of your journey is considered from my side. From the moment you start throwing clothes into a suitcase, I visualise the flow of your travel itinerary carefully considering your comfort and ease.
Booking
Transfers door-to-door, regional and domestic transfers by helicopter (preferred to light aircraft, but can do either), boat, ferry, car. Degustation dining at the world’s best restaurants, relaxation and healing protocols in the best spas and wellness retreats in the world as well as the finest accommodation at properties that take sustainability and biodiversity seriously. I curate a holistic itinerary based on this foundational premise: Tourism for transformation. Not simply an increase of foot traffic and the ultimate destruction of local biomes.
Behind-the-scenes coordination & magic
Your bespoke luxury itinerary is a seamless start to finish experience where everything is taken care of. That includes transfers, experiences and luxury accommodation. It also includes attention to all the finer details like luggage handling, expedited customs and security at airports, priority boarding, premium seating on flights, coordination of flights to ensure minimum airport time, maximum relaxation. All your meals and drinks are included as far as possible.
Once your holiday begins, no further thought is required, and your hosts will know exactly what to offer you based on the magical offering at the location in combination with your preferences and requirements.
Once you’re on the ground
Although your holiday commences, and time zones and distance may separate you and your experience from me your journey curator, make no mistake, I am tracking your progress and making necessary changes and adjustments that may be required as “life happens” and things may change.
Service fee
This is dependent on the itinerary. All details & costings will be provided. I compile a portal of information for every itinerary which means you have electronic access to all confirmations, bookings, reservation details, contact names and numbers, step-by-step day planner, as well as background information about every location, hotel and experience.

Luxury and a bit of magic
A unique combination of intuition and divinity come together to help me curate unforgettable experiences.
Singita Lebombo Lodge
Luxury is not a number, it’s a feeling
Luxury travel affirms the natural abundance of all things. If we allow ourselves to receive. We are also willing and able to give. To take responsibility for all of life.
The objective is that one returns from a luxury travel experience feeling new and improved! Not because there’s anything lacking in us before we travel, but because we don’t see ourselves accurately in our day to day. We doubt ourselves. We undervalue ourselves.
There’s a recognition that takes place when we’re held, nurtured and taken care of in these incredibly high vibrational environments. There is a real acknowledgement of our own infinite nature. When you return to the humdrum reality of normal life, there’s an uplevel.
Because we’ve experienced connection – Oneness consciousness – we want to take responsibility. It’s empowering, liberating.
Luxury travel acts as a reminder of our ability to provide for our own energetic needs. To follow our bliss, to connect with nature and people sincerely and with open hearts, and this is often the catalyst for new things to sprout in our life. If we are in this space of giving and receiving. Giving generously and accepting and receiving the abundance that’s offered back to us.
We naturally want to do more.
Take action and be part of the solution.
A touch of magic and inspiration
Clients will ask me “How did you know to organise this special cocktail, or this unique experience that happened?”, and even though I’d love to take all the credit, it’s also not me. I know that. It’s a co-creative process and Divine intervention.
I do my part. I curate – I’m channeling that itinerary. Once I’ve done my work, universal wisdom that takes over, and all the seemingly magical occurrences and experiences that take place are because of a higher power stepping in.
Meet Sharon
Curator of luxurious travel experiences, advocate for responsible travel
I am a FORA affiliated agent
Hi, I’m Sharon, and I believe that the right travel experience has the power to reconnect us with nature and ourselves. With years of firsthand experience and a passion for Africa’s wild spaces, I create journeys that feel as luxurious as they are transformative. Together, we’ll craft a travel experience that allows you to relax, rejuvenate, and return home with a heart full of memories.
I intuitively connect with my clients and their travel dreams and travel needs. I create magically transformative bespoke luxury travel experiences.
At the heart of it, the Phoenix journey is about healing. Individuals, families, communities, wildlife, and the earth.
I curate itineraries utilizing hotels and properties on the forefront of conservation initiatives and local community support and development.
Itineraries created in this way feel so good because of what happens behind the scenes that guests are sometimes unaware of.
My travel philosophy weaves together my great passions:
Nature and its preservation, and unapologetic luxury.
Itineraries are curated from the many properties of excellence found throughout the world. conscious, aware and active in their efforts to leave the earth in a better condition than which it’s found. Active in how they rise up to meet the needs and desires of their guests preemptively, effortlessly and with joyful excellence.
Traveling with The Phoenix Journey means exclusive access to Africa’s most secluded and luxurious lodges, handpicked for their commitment to conservation and community. With my deep local connections and knowledge of Africa’s hidden gems, you’ll avoid the crowds and discover the essence of Africa with privacy, comfort, and ease.
Creating empowerment in the local communities and environments in which they are found. The difference we experience is subtle. It’s as a result of a oneness consciousness. Travel becomes a spiritual experience. Soul medicine that facilitates the Phoenix Journey.
My preferred partner locations
My preferred partner relationships tend to be in big nature spaces like the Kruger National Park in South Africa; the Okavango Delta of Botswana; Torres del Paine in Patagonia, Chile; Kabini Reserve in South India; Kakadu National Park, the Kimberley, Daintree Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef of Australia; and Sumba Island and Raja Ampat in Indonesia, to name a few. Properties in these locations work on a low-impact, high-yield tourism model.
My tourism philosophy
Tourism directly impacts local communities and conservation initiatives, empowering, conserving and increasing biomass. This is the only answer for the continuation of our species here on earth. I am always mindful of the great privilege we have to travel and curate in this way. My own business model is set up in a way that supports the increase in biodiversity with affiliations to THE LONG RUN, 1% for the planet and other initiatives.
I have a long-standing meditation practice, and meditation is a journey within. Connecting us to who we are – our True Self. This connection to Self and higher consciousness is liberating and empowering. It’s freedom.
Travel has a similar power.
As we journey out in the world, we connect to the land, history, heritage, culture and to each other. We feel that same oneness consciousness
Traveller stories
Bernard’s Unforgettable Journey
My feet have touched the ground and I’ve arrived back in Cape Town. Thank you so much for curating such a fabulous trip.
Everything worked, the timing, the connections — all fine. I know that you must have worked remotely and in the background to do this, as you often knew before I did if things changed.
I’m wondering if anyone apart from you could have arranged that once-in-a-lifetime experience. That was above and beyond!
– Bernard
A Magical Celebration in the Eastern Cape
Thank you for organizing a very special holiday in the Eastern Cape for the girls. You chose the perfect space for us to celebrate. We loved the magical mornings in the bush.

Divine Experiences in Vietnam
Sharon has a magical superpower when it comes to finding the most perfect hidden gems. I’m still in awe of this trip. Lan Ha Bay, Ho Chi Minh and Siem Reap. My favourite has to be Jaya House River Park with the daily included massages straight from heaven and the inclusive breakfast feasts and those freshly-baked chocolate croissants and cappuccinos to go at 5am when we set off on the sunrise temple excursion with our own private guide and tuktuk. Magic. A close second to the super exclusive Heritage Line river cruise in Lan Ha Bay. Only six people, and the least tourist-dense world heritage site, simply sublime.

Luxury at Sequoia Lodge
Thank you Sharon, I would have spent a week at Sequoia Lodge — the ambience, the rooms, some of the best in the world!

Breathtaking Experiences at Longitude 131
So many experiences in such a short time I’m still digesting it all, especially the food. Bammaru, Masterchef Australia’s John Creece’s creative use of local flora and fauna (green ants come to mind!) — outstanding! Stefanie’s brunch was also exceptional there!
The team at Longitude 131 also knew how to make a great “Perfect Manhattan” — my test of a celebrated bar/restaurant. They even had my favorite bourbon, Woodford, in the recipe. I was impressed that Lou (GM) herself drove me to the airport. They (or probably you) also arranged for me to have the Swag experience under the stars, and around an open fire! Much more to say — I’ll save it for another time and I hope that you’ll curate many more trips for me.

You’re a rock star. Thank you so much for finding amazing Cape Town options for my girlfriend visiting from the UK to celebrate her 50th birthday.

Frequently Asked Questions
These are the questions most frequently asked in connection with traveling in Africa.
Planning for Africa
When should I start planning?
Forward planning is always recommended when booking travel. The luxury of time ensures we have all possible options available to choose from. When arranging for groups, school holidays or for specific important dates, locking in details up to nine months in advance ensures stress free travel planning and decision making. However, that said, I always advocate for Africa as the perfect location to choose when planning time frames are short because I always know of an exclusive hidden gem that’s available at short notice. It’s my specialty. I can craft last-minute magic within hours.
When is a good time to go to Africa?
Africa is a perfect year-round destination. The “Safari” experience is magical in the cooler dry season months, animals are easier to spot in the less dense bush and insects are not an issue. Summer is an absolute feast for the senses though, if you can take a little bit of heat (and, of course, all curated experiences come with private pools to cool off in, at the least, along with plentiful G&T’s!). The bush is lush and green from the rain, it looks like nature throws out a velvet green carpet overnight. The bush is also full of wildlife as animals drop their young. Two locations that do require planning for seasonality are Mana Pools and the Okavango Delta where most camps close at certain times of year because of rain and accessibility.
What types of accommodation do you curate?
My curation philosophy is about a nurturing experience where every need is preemptively taken care of by people who are the best at what they do in locations that are transformational. As such, I hand-select camps, lodges, hotels and other hidden gems that offer luxury accommodation, all-inclusive dining and refreshments as well as curated experiences. There are some exceptions which will be highlighted and explained when booking.
How many countries should I aim to visit?
This will depend on your personal preferences and energy levels. Southern Africa has several countries that combine well together. I specialize in itineraries that utilize Cape Town as the perfect launch point and one circuit that is particularly popular, is the clockwise journey from South Africa (Cape Town) including Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. There is the opportunity to add a tropical paradise beach location (or two) to this circuit being Mozambique’s Benguerra Island as well as Madagascar’s Nosy Ankao island. Should you choose any one of these countries for a fully immersive deep dive experience, this also comes highly recommended. You will return again and again to tick the other countries off your list, once you’ve had a taster.
How much time should I allow for my safari holiday?
Again, this depends on your preferences and requirements. I recommend a minimum of seven to 10 nights although the average trip for guests is around 2 weeks.
How much does a safari holiday cost?
African experiences are available at a wide variety of price points, and I recommend that everyone visit Africa no matter what their budget may be. My luxury bespoke travel experiences generally start from USD1000 per person per day. Curated itineraries include accommodation at the very best properties and award-winning hotels including, at a minimum transfers, meals, drinks and experiences with world-class guides.
I’m a solo traveler – do I have to pay single supplements?
Africa is a fantastic option for solo travelers. Rwanda has been identified as the safest country in Africa and number 7 in the world for solo travelers. Properties I curate are hand-selected for world-class staff and experiences and solo travelers leave feeling like family. Further good news is that most of the properties I curate have solo traveler waivers in slow and low season and some offer this year-round. Let me know your preferred location and lets see what magic we can create for you.
How does the planning process work?
We start our process with a conversation and me getting to know your preferences and absolute no-nos. With my expertise and your requirements, we find the perfect bespoke experience for you.
Can I make changes to this initial itinerary?
Changes are encouraged to suit your needs, desires and requirements perfectly. Also, sometimes Life happens and post facto changes are sometimes essential. Any cost implications to changes will be discussed at the time of making them.
Passports, visas, vaccinations, medications and travel insurance?
Your passport will need to be valid for at least six months from the date you return home. You’ll also need two blank pages for each of the countries you’ll be visiting. Your visa, vaccination and travel insurance needs will be discussed and attended to as per the requirements of the countries you choose to visit.
Booking
When will my booking be confirmed?
As soon as I receive written confirmation about your itinerary, I’ll send out paperwork that may for example include a booking form and deposit invoice. Once I receive the deposit or booking payments and the completed booking form I can confirm all arrangements on the ground.
Can you book flights, and how far in advance?
Yes. I can help with all of your flight needs. Most airlines release their flight schedules 299 days in advance. If your land bookings are made before flights are released, I will contact you as soon as they become available and finalize flights at the earliest possible date.
When will I receive my travel documentation?
When you book with The Phoenix Journey, you’re given exclusive access to your own online portal of information including your itinerary and any tickets for international and regional flights and via email. Three weeks prior to your departure, I’ll send you your full travel pack. This will include your day-by-day itinerary, contact list, flight tickets, driving instructions if you’re self-driving, spa menus, travel experiences, destination information, packing lists and travel tips and more.
Do I need to take any health precautions or vaccinations?
We recommend you visit your GP or a specialist travel doctor at least two months prior to departure. This will allow time for any necessary vaccinations and medication. Please be aware, if you’re visiting Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda or Ethiopia a yellow fever vaccination is compulsory. Your doctor may also recommend other vaccinations, depending on where you’re traveling (please remember to take your itinerary with you). These are not compulsory, so taking them will be at your discretion.
Traveling in Africa
Is Africa suitable for kids?
Africa is not only suitable for kids, but comes highly recommended. I’ve been traveling the African continent my whole life, as a born and bred African native and my formative years in the bush have shaped my deep appreciation of the natural world and my desire to preserve it for future generations. Also, as a mom to two boys, in a world of technology and gaming, it’s always a thrill for me to see my children taken in by the bush. Nature casts her magic spell. Most of the locations and properties curated have unique experiences for children, like junior ranger programs when on safari.
Do I need to be fit?
There are experiences in Africa to suit all levels of fitness at every age and stage of life. For example – most people believe that gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is only for the fit, where in fact this is not true. When a medical certificate is presented, guests are allocated a family of gorillas in close proximity to access points and porters can be arranged to assist where people have special mobility requirements.
Can my special dietary requirements be catered for?
Yes – the properties I curate can accommodate all special dietary requirements as specificities upfront when booking, including dietary restrictions, food allergies and religious restrictions. I record all of your dietary requirements in your booking form and share this with all properties to ensure you’re well cared for.
How do I stay in touch with family and friends while traveling in Africa?
Most properties provide Wi-Fi free of charge. Should you be completely remote, there will be access to a satellite phone. I provide this information, as far as possible, when booking and provide a list of contact numbers that you can share with family should they need to contact you. In addition, the Phoenix Journey offers 24/7 support in a WhatsApp group in case of an emergency.
Other helpful guidance
Dress code
Should there be specific dress code requirements for any luxury rail trips included or other events curated, this will be detailed in your information portal provided, as will all packing guidance relevant to your locations. Rwanda, for example, has recommendations for trekking that are different to a diving and beach holiday to Madagascar. Also worth noting, at the properties included in my itineraries gear rooms and specialty centers largely accommodate all needs for their specific environments.
Tipping
Many to most of the employees working in Africa rely on tipping as a main source of income. Where specific guidance is provided by individual properties, this is provided in the online information portal “thinkific” provided for each individual booking. General guidance on tipping is also provided there.
What power adaptors do I need for Africa?
Power points vary between countries and regions, so please ensure you check the relevant country information included in the online information portal provided to you. A portable charger can also come in handy for smartphone users, especially when you’re on all-day safaris and taking lots of images and videos.
How do I protect myself against mosquitos?
Again, properties are hand-selected for impeccably maintained environments where mozzies will hardly be noticed. To avoid being bitten by mozzies, always spray with an eco-friendly mozzie repellent before going out especially on ankles, feet, hands and arms. You can avoid insects by traveling in coller dry seasons too. If you’re traveling to a malaria area, it is best to speak to your GP before traveling to obtain any required medication.
Can I use a credit card, and what currencies will I need?
Yes, credit cards can be used across most locations curated into these itineraries. Currencies used depend on which countries you’ll be visiting. South Africa and Namibia use the Rand and a few places use euros, but the majority of countries use US dollars. Each individual country has its own currency as well. Having USD is recommended for tipping and any gift purchases, and prevents you having local currency left at the end of a trip that can’t be used elsewhere. Journeys are also curated to ensure that all experiences, meals and drinks are included so that reaching for your wallet is not needed.
Can I drink local tap water?
While tap water is considered safe in some countries (for example, South Africa and Namibia), bottled or filtered water is recommended and provided.
“In the end we’ll conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand and we’ll understand only what we have been taught.”
~ Baba Dioum
I know I’m not alone in my desire to adjust this quote slightly because I’ve seen conversations online about this, but I think it should read that we will conserve what we love because we’ve felt a connection with that thing, to that place, with that creature, animal, community.
Once we form that connection, we take responsibility, we say, “that belongs to me, it’s up to me to ensure that its protected, looked after, that it can thrive” and that happens when we travel. This is why I love what I do.
